Baby Pasta

Pasta is one of my go to meals when I get tired of eating rice (I eat rice a lot!) and my 3 year old just can’t get enough of it.

Pasta is mostly made from wheat which makes it a very good source of complex carbohydrates so it is always a good idea to supplement it with other foods that are rich in protein and other nutrients. This recipe is just a base recipe, you can add add on different vegetables and meats of your choice depending on what you have available. Pasta can be given to babies who have started eating solids. (recommended 6 months and above)

Here’s what you need to make a pasta meal for your baby.

  • 1 cup of Pasta! Spaghetti is the most popular type but use whichever one you have.
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • Olive Oil (or just good old vegetable oil)- 1 tbs
  • One big carrot
  • Protein (Steamed Fish, Fish Powder, Steamed Chicken)

First cook you pasta according to the instructions on the package. If you are adding carrots, cut one big carrot into 2 or 3 pieces and add let it boil with the pasta.

Chop your onions and tomatoes, toss onions in a tablespoon of olive oil until it caramelizes (starts to brown), then add your chopped tomatoes. Over low heat, stir until the tomatoes soften and let it simmer for a minute. No need to add salt to taste because babies don’t need salt. Besides, you have caramelized onions and carrots to act as sweeteners.

Let your sauce cool then pour it into a blender. Add the boiled carrots and your protein. If your are using fish powder, you can just pour it in. If you are using fish, be sure you have removed all bones. If you are using chicken, please used steamed instead of fried just to be sure that it can be pureed.

Blend the ingredients together with a little water from the pasta as and when needed, but don’y make it too runny.

When you are sure that all your ingredients have blended well, add your pasta to mixture in the blender and blend. Because the pasta is already cooked and soft, you can choose not to blend it to a very smooth consistency. It’s okay to have it a little rough. Remember to add water as and when it is needed during the blending process.

This recipe is very easy to make and you can add green beans, broccoli, sweet corn, pumpkin.
